Time: Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm

2005 YEAR TWO AGENDA

Monday

  • Tour of clinical site and meet staff.
  • Review of past cases with consult formulation and discussion with instructor, and what points would be important in court testimony in each case.
  • Observe and discuss current examinations as they arrive in clinic.
  • Discussion with instructor of five current articles in the medical literature on child maltreatment and how the content will influence clinical practice.
  • Attend meetings, case/photo review, court testimony, other as determined by instructor.

Tuesday

  • Review of past cases with consult formulation and discussion with instructor, and what points would be important in court testimony in each case.
  • Observe and discuss current examinations as they arrive in clinic.
  • Discussion with instructor of five current articles in the medical literature on child maltreatment and how the content will influence clinical practice.
  • Attend meetings, case/photo review, court testimony, other as determined by instructor.

Wednesday

  • Review of past cases with consult formulation and discussion with instructor, and what points would be important in court testimony in each case.
  • Observe and discuss current examinations as they arrive in clinic.

Thursday

  • Review of past cases with consult formulation and discussion with instructor, and what points would be important in court testimony in each case.
  • Observe and discuss current examinations as they arrive in clinic.
  • Discussion with instructor of five current articles in the medical literature on child maltreatment and how the content will influence clinical practice.
  • Attend meetings, case/photo review, court testimony, other as determined by instructor.

Friday

  • Review of past cases with consult formulation and discussion with instructor, and what points would be important in court testimony in each case.
  • Observe and discuss current examinations as they arrive in clinic.
  • Presentation to clinic staff of five current articles in the medical literature on child maltreatment and how the content will influence clinical practice.
  • Attend meetings, case/photo review, court testimony, other as determined by instructor.
  • Closing meeting with instructor to complete required forms, discuss experience.

Objectives: As a result of having attended this conference, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe how to perform all components of the medical evaluation including specimen collection.
  2. Display a solid working knowledge of normal and abnormal findings in child physical and sexual abuse.
  3. Identify ways the medical provider is used as a resource in the community and what that role is.
  4. Discuss the role of the medical provider as a regional consultant for child abuse cases.
  5. Discuss current research in the medical literature relating to child abuse and neglect and how that impacts practice and court testimony.

*NOTE: The daily agenda may vary depending on the learning opportunities that may arise and what the instructor feels the individual student's needs are.
