Brief Description:
Center for Safe and Healthy Families at Primary Children's Medical Center provides 24-hour services for the assessment of abused and neglected children and their families. The Center has 1.8 physician FTE's, one nurse practitioner FTE, and a staff which includes RN's, intake and support personnel. The Center has two examination rooms and examinations are documented by either digital or video colpophotography. The Center sees approximately 500 cases per year; 400 of which are sexual abuse with the remainder being physical abuse and neglect. Its medical providers are called for consultation by medical providers, attorneys, law enforcement, and child protective services in the intermountain region. Case staffings are held weekly. The Center for Safe and Healthy Families employs four nurse practitioners based in Children's Justice Centers across the state and peer review is conducted via teleconferencing and Second Opinion software. An additional 4-500 cases are reviewed in this manner. Populations served include Caucasian, African American, Latino, Native American, other.
